Where can I buy parts?
In the past it was hard and almost impossible to get parts. In the age of the internet you can google a part number and have many companies you can choose to buy from.
Should I buy OEM or Generic Parts?
I don’t have an easy answer for you. I always use OEM feed rollers. I have been burned by crappy generic rollers. If you have to return and replace them again there goes the money you thought you saved. I like to buy refurbished fusers. Generic copier drums on most of the equipment have worked well for me also. I just ask myself what are the odds this will not work and what is the total cost, even having to return with a replacement. What is the manufacturer guarantee?
Where can I get part numbers or part books or catalogs?
You can google the make and model of the equipment and may find a free download but at a cost of getting a virus or giving your e-mail out and live with spam. I like this service guide source, because they give you the parts along with the service guide for a reasonable price.

DIY Repair Tip; Lines on Pages
Posted: October 14, 2010 in Quality IssuesTags: how to fix lines, lines on my copies, lines on pages, problem with lines
I have lines on the pages on my digital copier can you Help?
Why yes…yes I can!
Does it only happen when you use the Automatic document Feeder (ADF)? Check to see if you place the original on the glass and make a copy, does the line appear? Now, check makeing a copy with the ADF does the line appear? If the line only appears when making copies while using the adf the slit glass needs to be cleaned. The slit glass is about 1″ x 12″ and is located next to the glass where you lay the original to make a copy. (This is the Platen Glass.)
Please read this article on Why are there Lines on my Copies and How to get Rid of Them.
Should I Use Generic Toner?
Posted: October 14, 2010 in SuppliesTags: compatible toner, copier toner, generic toner, oem toner, printer toner, recycled toner, refilled toner, toner, using generic toner
Good Question. Of course it is only my opinion but I don’t have a problem with generic or compatible toner for office equipment. Here is how I explain
my stance on the subject. If I just purchased a $5000.00 to $10,000.00 copier or printer I would only use the OEM or original toner. On the other hand if I had an older copier I wouldn’t mind so much. I have tried quite a few generics and I feel very confident in Hewlett-Packard black and white compatibles (from a reputable supplier) but not so much the color compatibles. A photorecepter is the part in a copy machine that helps develop the image for each copy. It works on the principle of static electricity. Analog copiers use light from mirrors and digital copiers use a laser to discharge non-image areas to create the invisable latent image. Then toner is Read the rest of this entry »
Error Codes & Self Diagnostics;Office Machines

Error Codes and Self Diagnostics are designed to help the technician discover what the problem is without having to inspect the machine. They are very accurate for the most part but can lead you in the wrong direction sometimes. For the customer and the Do-It-Yourselfer finding what the error code actually means can be the problem. I can help the Do-It -Yourselfer with the error codes on many differant makes and models. If you would like to have your own service manual and parts guide I recomend This website. Let me know if you need my help by posting a comment.
Be sure to leave the make and model of your machine and also the error code and any other information that may be important.
Example of self-Diagnostic error code.

This means there is a problem with the fuser assembly
Paper Jams; copiers, fax, printers
Posted: October 10, 2010 in Paper JamsTags: fix paper jam problems, jamming, paper jams, solution to jamming
Here is a problem that is universal. I can help. Most of the time the best thing to do is to replace the feed rollers, or at least clean them. It could be many other things that is causing the jamming issue but when you have a paper jamming problem I always begin with the feed. This is the primary start point for the paper path. Always keep it simple. Begin with making one copy or print at a time to determine where the problem lies. Try cleaning the rubber good first with wd-40 or replacing the rollers if you have them.
- Here you can ask a question or comment if you have a solution. Remember to:
- Always post the Make and Model and a clear description of the problem.
